At this point in time, the uprising in Libya appears to be coming to a conclusion – at least the armed struggle, though there is still a very long way to go and many obstacles to be overcome before we can expect to see a new stable government in the country.
Fighting for a Lost Cause
Colonel Gaddafi and his sons are still calling for their supporters to continue the fight, even though there doesn’t appear to be much that can be gained from doing so. The only likely outcome is more bloodshed and the human misery that goes with it.
We may ask, what is the mentality that will continue calling for more deaths, even though there is no good that can come from it?
It would seem that the members of one family are more than willing for large numbers of people to lose their lives and suffer in untold ways in a vain attempt to protect the privileged position that family has claimed for itself over the past few decades.
Of course, the Gaddafi family are not alone in this attitude. There have been many other tyrants in politics, business and other walks of life who have been equally self-centred.
God’s View on Life and Death
Such attitudes are in sharp contrast to the teachings and the actions of Jesus Christ. In one of the best known verses in the bible, the apostle John records:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, through whose death it became possible for every man, woman and child to be saved from eternal loss and to receive the wondrous gift of eternal life.
New Meaning in Life
There have been many people throughout history who have sought to follow the example of Jesus Christ and have been willing to give of themselves for the benefit of others – sometimes even to the point of death.
That is asking a great deal of anyone, but the bible tells us that when we submit our lives completely to God, the Holy Spirit, takes up residence in our lives and changes our whole outlook on life, death and the life hereafter.
That sounds unbelievable but there is only one way to prove whether or not it is true and that is by putting God’s word to the test. Surrender to God, ask Him to forgive all the wrong in your past life and to fill you with the Holy Spirit. His promise is to make you into a new man or woman and your life takes on a completely new meaning.
That doesn’t mean all your problems disappear. In fact you may well experience many more but they will be genuinely worthwhile and you will be facing them with the help of God.
God’s All-Inclusive Invitation
The amazing fact is that this offer is available to anyone and everyone. Yes, even colonel Gaddafi! More significantly the invitation is open to you, regardless of what your life has been. It is all up to how colonel Gaddafi or you or anyone else responds to God’s invitation.
If you want to know more, then you need to talk with those who have already experienced this amazing transformation. You may already know someone or you are most likely to come across such people in your local Christian church.
Why not seek them out and give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
